In celebration of Arbor Day this month, Fang! will be selling raffle tickets from March 26th until April 26th to benefit Oregon Wild and the Wildland Firefighter Foundation. In light of the recent wildfires in the Columbia Gorge, we wanted to recognize our wildlife and the wilderness as this beauty and solitude is what makes where we live so special. And those that work so fiercely to protect it. Keeping our lands pristine is the highest priority.
Oregon Wild was founded in 1974, and has been instrumental in securing permanent legislative protection for some of Oregon’s most precious landscapes, including nearly 1.7 million acres of Wilderness, 95,000 acres of forests in Bull Run/Little Sandy watersheds (to safeguard the quality of Portland’s water supply) and almost 1,800 miles of Wild & Scenic Rivers.
In addition to Oregon Wild, the Wildland Firefighter Foundation will benefit from the event. Wildland Firefighter Foundation’s main focus is to help families of firefighters killed in the line of duty and to assist injured firefighters and their families. The Foundation came together as a group of volunteers in 1994, shortly after the Storm King tragedy.
Thank you to our wonderful sponsors and their donations!
Arbor Day is an annual observance that celebrates the role of trees in our lives and promotes tree planting and care.
When Is Arbor Day?
For many years, Arbor Day was celebrated on April 22, J. Sterling Morton’s birthday. Today, National Arbor Day is celebrated on the last Friday in April. All fifty states, Puerto Rico, and some U.S. territories have passed legislation adopting Arbor Day, which is celebrated on a date appropriate for tree planting in their region. Visit arborday.org to learn when Arbor Day is celebrated in your state

Portland Christmas Trees Available!
Fang is thrilled to host North Portland Christmas Trees in the back lot again this year. Please support this wonderful tradition and your local community by purchasing your holiday tree from the Manun family. The Maunu family has been selling Christmas trees for many years. They started in the 60’s on the front lawn of a North Portland neighborhood. Very little has changed over the years. When you come to the lot, you’ll meet the family. You will be remembered year after year. You will get a great deal for your tree too!
What! There is more?
In addition to Santa Pics, help us raise funds for the Pongo Fund throughout the holiday season -starting on November 18.
Buy a holiday ornament for $6, $16, or $26 and we will fill our windows with all the joy of the season honoring your pet and family. In return, you’ll go home with a tasty treat for your dog or cat. The funds will help fight animal hunger, The Pongo Fund’s mission. Never heard of them? Here is a little background:
The Pongo Fund is Oregon’s only full-time charity focused on fighting animal hunger. Because hungry people have hungry pets. We work tirelessly to reduce shelter populations and keep families together by providing emergency pet food assistance to anyone in honest need. Protecting beloved family pets from the suffering, starvation, surrender, abandonment or worse, when a lack of food, but not a lack of love, is their only enemy.
In September and October, we will be hosting local animal communicator, Lou LaMotte at all three stores. Through Animal Communication you can learn more about the rich inner lives of your animals, what their soul’s purpose is as well as work out any questions you may have about their health and overall wellness.
“Often we think about the love and companionship our animals bring us, but we sometimes forget to think about our roles in their lives. That we may be playing an important role in their deep inner lives beyond walks, pets, and dinner. That they are our great teachers, and that we too are teachers to them,” says LaMotte.
A reading with Lou will inform pet owners what roles we are playing in their spiritual path and what that looks like for them. She will also share how we can best support them on this journey of their life.

About the Animal Communicator: Lou LaMotte, an animal communicator, will be doing the readings. She asks each pet owner to bring a printed out image of their pet where their face is visible and clear.
Lou LaMotte is a Queer Witch and Graduate of the Blue Iris Mystery School in Portland, Oregon. With the aid of their Ancestors, they weave magic, ritual, healing, and gratitude into their practice of working with the Plant and Animal realms. Lou works with people and their animals with animal communication, and through charm work, they weave new patterns with an old magic.
On Sunday, February 14, our sister store Salty’s Pet Supply welcomed friends (furry and human) to our 11th anniversary celebration!
The event also marked the end of our “Jake ‘n Max’s Boxes of Love” drive, a pet supply drive specifically for senior dogs. For the third year in a row, both Salty’s Pet Supply and Fang accepted donations for the drive, and this year’s drive beneficiaries were My Way Home Dog Rescue and Animal Aid. We had a lovely day with both groups, and My Way Home brought three dogs with them. Nick (the red guy on the right) got adopted by a couple that lives near Salty’s, so we will get to see him all the time!
Two of our vendors, Open Farm and Weruva, gave out tasty samples during our event. Lots of customers stopped by to enjoy the treats and support the groups, which also received 10 percent of anniversary sales and all proceeds from the raffle. Between Salty’s and Fang we raised $700 to split between the My Way Home and Animal Aid, and with the donation drive each store delivered nearly a car load each of donations of treats, beds, food, and other supplies. Thank you to all our wonderful customers for helping support these dogs and cats!
